Fall 2007 – Crop Breeding Mini-Courses
University of Nebraska-Lincoln
This fall, the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is pleased to offer three excellent crop breeding mini-courses that will be of interest to individuals involved in the plant breeding and seed industries. Each of these offerings is available for UNL academic credit (one graduate credit each), noncredit professional development or CEU credit. Each course has a traditional "resident" class section on the UNL campus; however, the majority of students in these courses participate via "live" Internet delivery.

Orlando de Ponti graduated at the Wageningen University in 1971, discipline
plant breeding. In 1980 he obtained his doctorate with a dissertation
on resistance breeding to insects at the same university.
From 1971 to 1986 he was employed at the Institute for breeding of horticultural
crops (IVT) in Wageningen in respectively functions of Researcher and
Head of the department Vegetable and Fruit.
From 1986 - 1991 he was Director of the Institute for plant diseases
(IPO-DLO) in Wageningen.
In 1991 he switched to the business world in his function of Director
Research of Nunhems Zaden BV, a company which at that time was part of
Hoechst AG. Since 1997 he holds the same function at the Holding Nunza
B.V., which international vegetable seed breeding company is part of Bayer
CropScience AG since 2002.
